Areej Jaffrey  

Born and raised in a small village in Pakistan, Areej Jaffrey has lived a life that exemplifies nontraditional. So it’s no big surprise that Jaffrey began her journey as a West Virginia University commuter student in fall 2024.

Most Engaged Campus 2024  

West Virginia University is one of the colleges and universities recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting for its outstanding efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation in the 2024 election.

WVU Press has announced the release of three new books on a range of subjects. The books include “This Book Is Free and Yours to Keep: Notes from the Appalachian Prison Book Project,” “Softie: Stories” and “Indigenous Ecocinema: Decolonizing Media Environments.”

Marching Band Thanksgiving Parade  

Months of hard work, planning, practice and dedication paid off with an incredible moment for members of the West Virginia University Mountaineer Marching Band Thursday (Nov. 28) in the 98th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. In the final installment of the Dream Big video series, join band members as they represent the University and the state along the soggy parade route.

Campus Woodburn Circle  

On Nov. 26, Gov. Jim Justice issued a proclamation declaring an official half-day holiday on Wednesday (Nov. 27) for state employees. Since WVU already observed Nov. 27 as a holiday, the University modified its holiday calendar to include an additional 3.75 hour “floating” holiday (pro-rated by FTE) for leave-eligible employees, effective Dec. 2.
