To provide a more competitive, market-driven classification structure for WVU as Workday goes live, staff job titles will soon change as part of the staff Job Family Architecture project.
Launched in March 2022, the JFA project is one of the Modernization Program’s foundational projects.
The project aims to create more consistent job titles for all staff roles by categorizing similar roles into job families, functions, and levels. These changes will provide more clarity about where staff positions fit into the broader University organization, and the new titles will better align with market standards.
This new structure will be communicated to our employees in stages over the coming months, and employee job title changes will coincide with the transition to Workday.
While staff job titles within HR systems will change, employees and supervisors will have the opportunity to use business or descriptive titles to clarify role responsibilities and/or reporting lines within title guidelines. Employees will also continue to have individual job descriptions that detail specific day-to-day job responsibilities and requirements.
The project applies to staff across all campuses and will only affect job titles.
Note that compensation, job duties, and reporting lines will not change as a result of this project.
Additionally, faculty, student worker, and graduate assistant titles will not change as part of the project.
This is strictly a title change for staff members.
Over the coming months, we will share information with staff employees through bimonthly “WVU Job Family Architecture Explained” emails and ENews announcements, which will dive deeper into a variety of topics within the project.
The Job Family Architecture website is also available for all employees. The site houses in-depth information about the project, provides definitions for commonly used project terms, explains career pathing, and answers FAQs.
If you have any questions, contact the compensation team at Compensation@mail.wvu.edu. As part of its responsibilities, the team develops and maintains the classification structure of WVU job titles.
We are committed to making this a smooth process and ensuring that all employees feel informed as we approach the implementation of Workday.
