University adopts policy on digital accessibility

In ongoing support of the University’s commitment to an inclusive digital environment, and in alignment with updated federal regulations under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the University has adopted a Digital Accessibility Policy that provides guidelines for employees across the WVU System who manage or create digital content.

While the deadline for federal compliance has been extended, the University is not planning to delay steps that can improve digital accessibility.

The new policy outlines responsibilities and exceptions to accessibility standards published by the World Wide Web Consortium and was created through collaboration among members of the Digital Accessibility working group, General Counsel and Office the Provost.

The policy is now available on the WVU Digital Accessibility resource website, along with guides for commonly used products like Word, PowerPoint and PDFs. The site also points to resources for editing web, video and social media content for accessibility.

Erin Kelley, the University’s Digital Accessibility Program director, will continue to collaborate with stakeholders across campus to establish accessibility plans and support remediation efforts. Training opportunities, new information and resources will be made available on the Digital Accessibility website as they become available.
