The Division of Student Life has implemented organizational changes designed to better align its resources and teams with the evolving needs of students.
These changes aim to foster greater collaboration and more effectively support engagement, well-being and overall success.
The following individuals will serve in leadership roles to guide strategic priorities across the newly aligned areas:
Thanh Le will serve as assistant dean for Student Engagement and Leadership, overseeing Arts & Entertainment programming, Greek Life, the Student Involvement and Leadership Center, and the new Center for Community Connections. Together, these areas play an essential role in creating opportunities for students to connect, build community and find a sense of belonging within the Mountaineer experience.
Olivia Pape will serve as interim assistant dean for Student Well-being, overseeing the Carruth Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, WellWVU and Collegiate Recovery. This more intentional alignment of wellness-focused units will allow outreach specialists to better promote available resources and activities, while clinical staff remain focused on providing care and support to students. It will also strengthen coordination around crisis response, ensuring students receive timely and seamless support when they need it most.
Nathan Harlan will serve as executive director for Experiential Programming and Services, overseeing Campus Recreation, Adventure WV and Student Media. These programs provide some of the most memorable and transformative experiences for students outside the classroom, while also serving the broader community. Employing many students and maintaining strong partnerships with academic units across campus, these programs play an important role in enhancing the student employment experience.
Chris Schmoldt will serve as executive director for Student Union and Operations, overseeing the Mountainlair and operational support for designated spaces within Evansdale Crossing, as well as the transition of Arts & Entertainment tech support into this area. This alignment is designed to enhance event programming, increase activity at the Crossing, and ensure the Mountainlair continues to serve as the primary student union and gathering space for students.
Sabrina Cave will serve as senior liaison for Campus and Community Relations, leading efforts to strengthen connections between Student Life, campus partners and the broader community. This role will focus on engagement across campus and collaboration with the Alumni Association, as well as outreach throughout the Morgantown community and across the state and region in partnership with divisional campuses and units such as Enrollment Management.
Student Life and its operations are overseen by the Vice President for Student Life Gary G. Furbee, II, while Carrie Showalter serves as dean of students and associate vice president.
