To support the ability of WVU to meet critical enrollment goals, including growth in first-year and online populations, the University will adopt Slate by Technolutions, a recruitment and admissions platform widely used across higher education.
The Modernization Program Sponsors and Steering Committee expect to begin using Slate in Fall 2028. The Enrollment Management team will be developing a detailed implementation plan and more specific dates will be forthcoming.
Slate provides integrated capabilities for communications, event management, fraud application detection, application management and analytics in a single platform designed specifically for enrollment management.
Moving from the current Salesforce-based tool suite to Slate will simplify the WVU technology environment and reduce long-term operating costs through a predictable subscription model. By consolidating functionality, eliminating expensive licensing requirements and reducing reliance on third-party tools, the University will be able to redirect resources toward other strategic priorities while improving the experience for prospective students and WVU staff.
“The decision to transition from Salesforce to Slate is not merely a technical change; it is a critical step to strengthen the University’s enrollment strategy and long-term financial sustainability,” said Vice President for Enrollment Management Fabrizio D’Aloisio. “As we pursue our Strategic Enrollment Plan goals, adopting a platform purpose-built for higher education will better position us to compete and grow.”
Adopting vendor supported, cloud-based software that is purpose-built for student recruiting and enrollment management will reduce the need for custom development and ongoing system maintenance. Recruiters will be able to manage communications, events and applicant workflows more efficiently, while Information Technology Services will be able to focus resources on other institutional priorities, including the Workday initiative and other critical needs.
“This decision reflects our commitment to implementing fit-for-purpose solutions that improve both the prospective student and employee experience,” said Interim Chief Information Officer Phil Stasko. “We are grateful to the many colleagues who have worked diligently to support our current platform. While Salesforce continues to serve institutional needs, Slate is uniquely designed to support enrollment management in higher education.”
What to Expect
During the transition period, Enrollment Management teams will operate in two systems until Salesforce admissions tools can be retired. As with any major system change, some business processes may evolve as we adopt best practices supported by the new platform.
Front-line admissions staff will play a key role in shaping system configuration, identifying mission-critical reporting needs, and ensuring continuity of data and operations throughout the transition.
Additional updates, including opportunities for engagement and information sessions about the new platform, will be shared as planning progresses.
