The Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources will celebrate the nationally recognized Engineers Week with events and activities from Feb. 23-27 at the Engineering Sciences Building.
The following featured events will be held in the Engineering Sciences Building, Room G19:
Tuesday (Feb. 24)
9 to 11 a.m.
Learn the process of extracting oil and gas from shale and other forms of tight rock through the “Country Roads, Coffee & Completions: Engineering Energy” Frac and Cement demonstration hosted by Patterson-UTI. The company will bring the world of oilfield engineering to the WVU Engineers Week celebration on the Evansdale area of campus.
Thursday (Feb. 26)
2 to 4 p.m.
Learn how robots save lives in the “Defusing the Situation: Army ROTC Robotics” during a bomb defusing robot demonstration. The WVU Army ROTC and Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering will showcase how robotic technology can safely diffuse explosive devices, protecting servicemen and women from direct harm.
Engineers Week will also feature a wide range of student-centered events throughout the week, including food-centered gatherings, professional preparation opportunities, wellness activities and random acts of kindness initiatives.
National Engineers Week unites professional organizations, educational institutions and communities nationwide to celebrate engineers’ contributions and inspire future innovators. Through hands-on activities, interactive demonstrations and open dialogue, it has fostered connections and empowered students to become changemakers for nearly 100 years.
