Kenny Lipscomb, a recycling vehicle driver and sanitation worker with the Facilities Management Roads and Grounds crew, has been selected to be featured for the January Staff Council Classified Staff Showcase.
Originally from Tucker County, Lipscomb joined the Facilities Management team nearly 12 years ago.
In his role, he is responsible for daily collection of recycling from all dumpsters and totes on the Downtown, Evansdale and Health Sciences areas of campus. He said he believes most people would be surprised to learn the campus collects approximately 2,000 pounds of recycling each day.
In addition to his recycling collection duties, he assists with mowing throughout the summer months, and with snow and ice removal efforts during the winter months.
Lipscomb also runs the street sweeper in the Blue Lot and other tailgating areas at Milan Puskar Stadium following Mountaineer home football games, and he helps with WVU Commencement ceremonies.
From 2013 to 2023, he worked as a lead landscaper on the Downtown area of campus.
“I play many roles as a member of the Roads and Grounds crew, and when I look back at all my hard work, I am proud of what I have done to help keep our campus clean and safe for the students and staff,” Lipscomb said.
He noted he has had some interesting work experiences, including the time he helped unload a massive pumpkin weighing more than 1,400 pounds to be displayed at the Mountainlair as part of the 2017 Mountaineer Week.
Each month, the University will acknowledge the valuable efforts and hard work of a Classified Staff employee with the Classified Staff Showcase.
