Putting the focus on how we’re all charting the University’s future together, President Michael T. Benson is inviting staff members to join him for a discussion about the WVU Strategic Compass at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at the Mountainlair, Gluck Theater.

This first session, which is specifically open to staff, is one of two scheduled Strategic Compass follow-up presentations for University employees.

For faculty, President Benson will present the final Strategic Compass during the Faculty Senate meeting at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, at the College of Law Fitzsimmons Event Hall.

Everyone can watch the Faculty Senate meeting live on YouTube. Find the link. No log-in information is required. The meeting recording will also be available for viewing at a later date.

In November, President Benson shared the finalized Strategic Compass with the campus community which reflected extensive revisions based on feedback that helped shape the direction of this important framework for the future.

The Dec. 12 staff meeting and the Jan. 12 Faculty Senate presentation for faculty will include details on the changes made because of your input.

At the start of the fall semester, faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders were invited to share their reflections on the draft Compass. The response was extraordinary. More than 800 members of our community participated, offering over 1,300 thoughtful comments.

What stood out most to President Benson and other University leaders was how overwhelmingly supportive the responses were — reflecting genuine pride in WVU and a shared belief in the direction the University is heading.

Your feedback played a central role in strengthening the final version of the Compass.

Several clear themes emerged: a reaffirmation of our land-grant identity, a desire to keep service to West Virginia at the heart of our work, a call for clearer and more actionable language, and an appreciation for the bold, inclusive tone that captures the Mountaineer spirit.

With the Compass finalized, focus has now turned to implementation and President Benson will talk about next steps during the two Strategic Compass presentations.

If your schedule allows, please make plans to join him.
