Classified Staff Showcase: Lindsay Maxwell

Lindsay Maxwell, an alum who serves as a dispatcher with the University Police Department, has been selected to be featured in the November Staff Council Classified Staff Showcase.

Originally from Elkins, she began her career with UPD as a student worker in the training division, and soon after earning her bachelor’s degree in criminology from WVU in December 2024, she landed her role as a dispatcher.

“I stayed at WVU after graduation because I knew I wouldn’t be able to find a better work environment than at UPD,” she said. “The department really goes above and beyond to protect our campus, and dispatch is a huge part of that.”

In her role, she serves as the first point of contact for campuswide issues, fielding calls from staff and students that address everything from maintenance issues and parking questions to police and safety concerns. Additionally, she monitors text messages and panic alarms through the LiveSafe app. Ultimately, Maxwell and her colleagues are responsible for assessing each situation and routing it for a quick resolution.

“The most gratifying part of my job is being a part of a team that supports each other and works 24/7 to make sure faculty, staff and students on all three areas of campus feel safe and protected,” Maxwell said. “I love that every day is unique. We never know what’s going to be on the other end of the phone, but we do know every call is a new opportunity to help someone in our community.”

Outside of work she enjoys playing flute, practicing karate and spending quality time with her family and friends.

If you see Lindsay around campus, give her a shoutout.

Each month, the University will acknowledge the valuable efforts and hard work of a Classified Staff employee with the Classified Staff Showcase.
