All WVU-managed computers that are still using an outdated Windows 10 operating system as of Oct. 1 will be removed from the network that day to support the integrity and security of WVU data and services.
This applies to all campuses, including Health Sciences Center locations, and is the culmination of a two-year effort to have colleges and departments upgrade their devices to Windows 11.
Information Technology Services has long stressed the need to update computers before the Sept. 30 deadline, or to replace those that cannot be updated.
Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 this fall, and any devices still using that operating system will no longer receive critical security updates. Their continued access to the network creates an unacceptable security risk.
Exemptions to this requirement will be rare and must be requested immediately. IT directors should contact InfoSec@mail.wvu.edu.
