Faculty, staff and students on all campuses will soon be required to set up the Okta Verify multi-factor authentication app to prepare for the retirement of Duo on Oct. 1.
You will need your Duo Mobile throughout September, so do not delete it yet.
Okta Verify will become required on the following schedule:
All faculty, staff and affiliates with sponsored accounts on the Morgantown, Beckley and Keyser campuses will be prompted starting Sept. 9.
Students will be prompted starting Sept. 11.
HSC campus employees, including those at the Charleston and Eastern divisions, will be prompted starting Sept. 16. Shared Users, or people with dual roles at WVU and WVU Medicine, could see this prompt sooner.
The prompt will appear based on your last login to certain WVU services.
Once it appears, you must complete the setup. Otherwise, you will be temporarily unable to access applications that require Okta for verification, including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Cloud and Qualtrics.
ITS is making this change to minimize disruptions when Duo Mobile retires on Oct. 1.
To avoid disruptions to your productivity, ITS strongly recommends setting up Okta Verify before it becomes required.
Become familiar with Okta Verify now by installing it from your app store, then activating it in your Okta dashboard at login.wvu.edu. Setup should take only a few minutes, but if you have problems, call the ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444.
If you are using a hardware option for multi-factor authentication, visit this IT Help Center page to confirm its compatibility with Okta Verify.
Duo display tokens will stop working on Oct. 1, and ITS recommends you consider purchasing a compatible hardware option as a backup authentication method.
Authentication for hundreds of WVU applications will be changing now through Oct. 1, and you may see either the old login screen or the new Okta interface when logging in.
