The University community is invited to a celebration honoring Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Paula Congelio, who is retiring after serving WVU from both the Health Sciences Center and Stewart Hall for more than a decade.
The drop-in event for colleagues and friends will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Erickson Alumni Center Kennedy Club Room.
“Paula has been a dedicated Mountaineer and loyal friend to many of us on campus. She has worked diligently for many years through mounting challenges to ensure this University operates from a solid financial foundation,” President Michael T. Benson said.
“Though her expertise, steady leadership, financial prudence, and confident insights will be missed, Paula should be proud of her work here at WVU. I hope you will join me in wishing her well during retirement. I know she’s looking forward to spending more time with her family, traveling, and likely training for more marathons.”
First hired as senior director of finance and reporting for the Health Sciences Center in 2012, Congelio was promoted to associate vice president of finance at HSC in 2014 before advancing to her current role in 2017 which oversees Finance, budgeting, reporting, Shared Services, Facilities and Information Technology Services for the entire University.
Congelio will step down as CFO Oct. 31 and transition to a special advisor to the Finance team role until Dec. 31 as part of a phased retirement plan.
Beginning Nov. 1, oversight for day-to-day operations of the Division of Finance, Facilities and ITS will transfer to Barbara Weiss, senior associate vice president for Finance, who will serve as interim vice president.
A national search for a permanent vice president and CFO will begin this fall.
