The WVU Police Department is sharing tips during Vehicle Theft Prevention Month to help you keep your vehicle and belongings safe.
- Always lock vehicle doors and roll up windows, no matter how long you will be away from your vehicle.
- Develop a routine to inspect locks on your doors, windows and other applicable areas to ensure they are working effectively.
- Do not leave spare keys in places accessible to others.
- Utilize any anti-theft devices or programs available on your vehicle, or consider purchasing a steering wheel lock, GPS tracker or dash camera.
- If leaving a vehicle unattended for an extended period of time, consider asking a trusted person to check in on it periodically.
- Take valuable items with you while you are away, including any medications. If you cannot bring these items with you, lock them in a safe place. Do not leave valuable items in plain sight in your vehicle.
As always, if you see something, say something. Report suspicious behavior to UPD, like someone attempting to open the doors of multiple vehicles or looking into the windows of several parked vehicles.
