The Funk and Soul Ensemble, a new addition to the School of Music, will showcase the talents of students in a high-energy, genre-blending concert that promises to captivate audiences at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (Dec. 11) at the Mountainlair Gluck Theatre.

The ensemble has prepared a vibrant setlist of 12 songs that span the rich history of funk, soul and R&B with tracks from legendary artists such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, the Black Pumas and Earth, Wind & Fire.

“It’s really exciting to see these students thrive in this genre of music,” said Joshua Swiger, director of the Funk and Soul Ensemble. “All of the songs were picked by the students and arranged by the ensemble. It’s just an honor to be part of this exciting group and to watch them grow both as musicians and as collaborators.”

This debut performance represents a milestone for the School of Music, showcasing talent and passion for some of the most iconic music genres of the 20th century.

Come out and celebrate an unforgettable evening of rhythm, soul and groove.
