Moore named Counselor of the Year

Beth Moore

Elizabeth Moore, behavioral health therapist and training coordinator for the Carruth Center, was honored with the Counselor of the Year Award during the West Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators national conference held at The Resort at Glade Springs Oct. 29-30.

This award recognizes a campus-based mental health professional who exhibits extraordinary commitment to the mental health of college students while demonstrating a commitment to their own wellness and professional development. Nominees have also made significant contributions to student success through individual and group counseling and by promoting wellness throughout the campus community.

Moore is an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Certified Therapist and a Certified Koru Mindfulness Teacher who specializes in helping students manage anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, relationship issues and more.

Each semester, she facilitates a four-week Basic Mindfulness series where she teaches students mindfulness skills and meditation techniques to better manage stress and anxiety.

Prior to joining the Carruth Center team, she worked in student counseling centers at Point Park University and Slippery Rock University.

Moore is a first-generation college graduate who earned her master’s degree in marriage and family counseling, and doctorate in counselor education and supervision from Duquesne University.

Moore was nominated by Jeneice Shaw, training director at Carruth.

“Beth is dedicated to ensuring the next generation of mental health clinicians in college settings contribute to the lives of the students they work with in a positive and meaningful way,” Shaw said. “Indeed, of the 29 students Beth has helped train, 17 have continued to work at a university counseling center and, of those, 10 remain at West Virginia University. This academic year, she is helping to train 14 new mental health clinicians.”
