Silent Witness exhibit to honor domestic violence victims

Silent Witness Exhibit

The WVU Women’s Resource Center invites faculty, staff, students and community members to help honor those murdered by acts of domestic violence at the annual exhibit featuring a collection of life-sized silhouettes that represent West Virginians who were killed by a family member or intimate partner.

The exhibit will be in the Mountainlair Vandalia Lounge through Friday (Oct. 4) and at the Health Sciences Center Pylons from Oct. 7-11.

A Resource Expo will also be held in the Vandalia Lounge from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 1). Several groups will participate and provide information on resources available at WVU and across West Virginia for those who have experienced domestic violence or for those who know family or friends who have experienced domestic abuse or violence.

Participating organizations include the School of Social Work, WellWVU, Carruth Center, Interfraternity Council, LGBTQ+ Center, Student Family Resources and WVU ADVANCE Center.

As part of a national initiative to raise awareness about the tragedy of domestic violence, viewers are encouraged to remember those who were murdered by acts of domestic violence, help raise awareness in our local communities, connect people to local resources, advocate to end domestic violence, and legislate to hold abusers accountable and help end the vicious cycle of domestic violence.

The exhibit is funded in part by the Big 12 Violence and Discrimination Awareness and Prevention Fund.
