Longtime HSC leader Laura Roth, AVP for community engagement, retiring from ITS

Laura Roth

Laura Roth, assistant vice president for community engagement in Information Technology Services, is retiring from WVU after 39 years. Her last day will be Friday, Oct. 18.

Laura served as AVP with the former Health Sciences Center ITS for about 15 years until 2023, when that unit merged with ITS. She held broad leadership and oversight responsibilities at the Health Sciences Center, leading the development of countless technology initiatives and solutions, including voice, video, data networks and systems. Before that, Laura was director of Information Systems Operations at HSC for nearly 12 years.

Throughout her tenure, Laura significantly contributed to the growth and stability of critical IT services, primarily for WVU’s academic healthcare center, and more recently, expanded IT services to support classroom technology needs for both the downtown and Evansdale campuses.

“It has been incredibly rewarding to witness the positive impact of our work and to have played a key leadership role in building a stable and secure IT environment that will continue to support WVU’s future success,” Roth said.

Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer Brice Knotts thanked Roth for her many years of service to the institution, for her partnership in the transition of operations over the past year, and for her efforts to establish a solid foundation for the future at HSC. Organizational changes that may result from Roth’s retirement will be announced later.

“We are grateful for Laura's selfless service and leadership to the University, the Health Science Center and the state during her tenure at WVU,” said Chancellor and Executive Dean for Health Sciences Clay Marsh. “She makes a difference in all she does, and we will miss her.”

No public celebration is planned.
