The Office of Student Success is rebranding REACH Student Success to help further improve the student experience.
Faculty, staff and administrators are encouraged to promote the program to students, particularly first-time freshmen, BIPOC, first-generation, Pell-eligible students, and those who are struggling to transition to college and find the resources to help them succeed in and out of the classroom.
The Respond, Engage and Climb Higher program, or REACH, offers support services to meet students’ academic and personal needs, including one-on-one tutoring, success coaching and peer assistance.
One of the newest perks this fall is to live chat or text with another student about anything students are going through at WVU — the good, the bad or the ugly. These peer assistants connect with students in real-time during normal business hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
This is a great way for students to talk about their experiences with peers who can help them discover resources to find community, study tips, goal-setting and anything in between.
Beyond normal business hours, students can also ask general questions with the 24/7 “Ask Morgan” chatbot any time, day or night.
Students are also welcome to book an appointment and meet with a student or REACH staff in person at the REACH Lounge. Open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the lounge offers a comfortable place for students to ask academic, financial or personal questions, study, make connections with peers and success coaches, and access free printing, loaner laptops, school supplies and snacks. Students may also run into Ruby, the official visitation therapy dog.
The REACH team is also expanding to include an outreach coordinator and engagement coordinator to support the growing needs of the program. Offerings include academic workshops, events to help students find friends and make meaningful connections on campus, and text and email notifications throughout the semester to help students stay on track with their coursework.
Note that a few changes have also been made to REACH programming. The Quad LLC has transitioned to the Center for Black Culture and tutoring is only available at Bennett Tower.
Students are encouraged to take advantage of REACH and take charge of their futures at WVU.
