The ways that faculty, staff and students access certain kinds of software have changed since the end of the Spring 2024 semester, including JMP statistical software.
The vendor recently announced it will provide JMP to academic users at no charge, and employees and students should now go directly to the vendor website.
Note: You must upgrade to JMP 18 to gain access to the free version. Older versions will require payment and written justification to the vendor, which is rarely granted.
ITS also launched a new e-commerce store to speed up order fulfillment for SAS or SPSS. Previously, the inability to collect credit card payments online forced employees and students to visit an ITS Service Center to pay with personal funds. The new automated process gets software into customers’ hands faster.
The Software Licensing Information Center offers details on products available through the SLIC program. Log in with your primary WVU email account to see these articles.
Software available through the SLIC Software request form includes several Microsoft products not included in your University-issued Microsoft 365 account, such as Project, Visio and Power BI.
WVU faculty and staff should not attempt to purchase Microsoft Teams Premium, which contains an Artificial Intelligence product and other tools not approved for use in the University environment.
Currently, the only AI services authorized for use are the Blackboard/Anthology AI Design Assistant in eCampus Ultra and the basic Microsoft Copilot. Find additional guidance on the appropriate use of AI.
Employees must obtain prior approval for all technology purchases, whether inside or outside the SLIC program. Use the IT Purchase request form before making a purchase, even when obtaining free software you plan to use in the WVU environment.
