University Police holding active shooter trainings for employees Thursday

Active Shooter Training

The University Police Department will host two active shooter trainings on Thursday (April 18), wrapping up a series of open training sessions provided to employees this month.

The trainings will be held from 9-10 a.m. and 6-7 p.m. in the Mountainlair Gluck Theater.

This in-person training will teach employees how to respond if an active shooter is nearby and equip them with the knowledge needed to stay as safe as possible. University Police officers will also discuss the definitions of an active threat and active shooter, identifying suspicious behaviors and how to respond in the event of an active shooter. They will also cover de-escalation tactics, including using empathy and speech to redirect situations and understanding tone and body language.

Space is limited in each training and registration is required. Reserve your seat.

Information on additional training opportunities and resources for both employees and students will be provided throughout the summer and fall.
