Davis College to host pair of Research Week events

Research Week

As part of West Virginia University Research Week 2024, the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design will host events to showcase research within the college April 3 and 4.

From 2 to 4 p.m. April 3, the Division of Forestry and Natural Resources will hold a hardwood cross-laminated timber demonstration in Percival Hall, Room 106.

Researchers have been studying ways to make hardwoods useful for structural applications. Large, thick panels known as cross-laminated timbers are used for long spans in walls, floors and roofs. Historically, the panels have been manufactured using softwoods but Davis College faculty have discovered ways to use hardwoods, like yellow poplar, instead.

For more info on the demonstration, contact Levante Denes at ldenes@mail.wvu.edu.

The Davis College will also host Student Research and Creative Scholarship Day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 4 in the Agricultural Sciences Building, Room 4004. This research day started 27 years ago and offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain valuable insights into cutting-edge research conducted by both undergraduate and graduate students.

For more info on that event, contact Ana Claudia Sant'Anna at Ana.Santanna@mail.wvu.edu.

These events are part of the University’s sixth annual Research Week from April 1-5. A slate of activities, events and workshops will be held during the week to showcase research efforts and to celebrate those who help elevate WVU as a premier R1 institution.
