West Virginia Poison Center to mark National Poison Prevention Week

In recognition of National Poison Prevention Week, Sunday (March 17) through March 23, the West Virginia Poison Center is raising awareness about the dangers of poisonings and how to prevent them.

The West Virginia Poison Center, which serves all 55 counties in West Virginia, receives calls regarding the following emergency situations:

• Accidental poisonings of children and adults,

• Drug overdoses,

• Bites and stings,

• Reactions to drugs and chemicals,

• Potential poisonings from plants and mushrooms,

• Poisonings from drugs of abuse.

Housed at the West Virginia University Charleston Division, trained medical experts are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 1-800-222-1222.
