WVU contractors will install new exterior door locks at 13 academic buildings on the Downtown Campus between now and Aug. 1 to automate operations and improve security.
This work will be done in two phases that could be several weeks apart, the first to run new required cabling and the second to replace the locks. Although these activities may affect pedestrian traffic flow at times, they won’t otherwise disrupt classroom operations.
All building supervisors will be notified when work is scheduled to begin at their location; the precise dates are not currently set. However, buildings will be upgraded in the following order: Woodburn Hall, Eiesland Hall, Armstrong Hall, E. Moore Hall, Martin Hall, Clark Hall, Field Hall, Ming Hsieh Hall, Life Sciences Building, Chemistry Research Laboratory, Brooks Hall, Oglebay Hall and White Hall.
This initiative will improve both security and the University’s operational efficiency by automating the lock/unlock schedule for exterior classroom building doors. Information Technology Services will be coordinating and testing these upgrades, but the installation work will be done by WVU vendors.
Any employee or student who is still using a WVU ID card issued before June 19, 2017 will need to upgrade to a smart card to use these new electronic locks. Older cards also don’t contain the chip required for new access controls and other devices.
Employees can get a new ID card for free when surrendering their old card. If you have lost your card, you will be charged a $20 replacement fee. Affected employees can get a new photo and ID card at the ITS Service Center in the Mountainlair between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday unless the University is closed.
Alternatively, visit idphoto.wvu.edu to submit a photo that meets WVU requirements. Once you have submitted your preferred photo(s), you must also upload a copy of a legal photo ID to confirm your identity. Your submission will be reviewed and you will receive a response via email within three business days. If your photo is rejected, you must submit a new one that meets the guidelines. Cards can be picked up at the Service Centers.
