The Center for Veteran, Military and Family Programs will mark the 82nd anniversary of the attacks and honor the lives lost at 9:30 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 7) at the USS West Virginia mast and bell in front of Oglebay Hall.
West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner is the keynote speaker and there will be a 21-gun salute with three volleys being fired.
The public is also invited to the lobby of the Downtown Library following the ceremony for the debut of a life preserver from the USS West Virginia, a gift donated by WVU alumnus Ken Kendrick, his wife, Randy, and his brother, Rick.
The life preserver will be available for viewing in the lobby until 12:30 p.m. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served.
The artifact will then be on display in the West Virginia and Regional History Center through March.
