WVU First-Generation Initiatives invites faculty, staff and students to join college communities from across the country in celebrating the 7th annual First-Generation College Celebration through activities planned from Nov. 6-10.
WVU defines first-generation as neither parent earning a four-year degree in the United States.
Mix and mingle with other first-gen students, faculty and staff at a Networking Celebration from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the Erickson Alumni Center. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate your journey, support the next generation of first-gen students and connect with your fellow trailblazers.
First-Generation Initiatives also encourages colleges, departments and units to spotlight their first-gen faculty, staff and students on websites and social media, and/or host an event for first-gen individuals and their allies to gather. Activities may include hosting a snack or treat station, creating a photo booth with first-gen props or checking out the 101 Ways to Celebrate on Nov. 8 for fun, engaging ideas.
With close to 4,000 self-identified undergraduate first-gen students on the Morgantown campus, your support is needed to spread awareness and celebrate this community.
Units are encouraged to share all first-gen events no matter how big or small by Nov. 1.
To help grow the University’s strong first-generation community, faculty and staff are encouraged to self-identify as first-generation in Applaud.
