The 26th annual Diversity Week, aimed at creating an atmosphere that provides the WVU community with opportunities to explore different cultures, engage in discussions that bring new perspectives and celebrate our uniqueness, will begin Sunday (Sept. 17) with the following events.
The Dog Day of Summer, A Yappy Hour event will be held from 1-6 p.m. at Mylan Aquatic Center.
Join the WVU Hearts of Gold therapy dogs to de-stress and relax, and bring your furry ones for a chance to splash around on the outdoor splash pad. Attendees and their pets can also enjoy a vendor showcase, photo booth, Top Dog contest and adoption opportunities.
The Community Coalition for Social Justice and Environmental Justice Fair will be held from 2-4 p.m. at the Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park and Amphitheater.
Meet local community members and staff from the Carruth Center and Center for Black Culture to learn about their importance within the community while enjoying free food and giveaways.
The CCSJ brings together people from the Greater Morgantown Area, religious organizations, faculty and staff from the University and area schools, labor unions and community advocacy organizations to promote the principles of social, environmental and economic justice, and respect for all persons.
The Community Heroes Award Reception, celebrating former Delegate Charlene Marshall, will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.
Marshall broke many systematic barriers throughout her work in diversity, first by becoming West Virginia's first African American female mayor in 1991 and later serving 14 years in the West Virginia House of Delegates.
