As part of the University's efforts to provide a safe learning, working and living environment, the Talent Strategy team reminds our campus community that background checks are required for all employees, including graduate assistants
In accordance with the WVU Background Checks Policy, the successful completion of a background check is a condition of employment. Graduate assistants may not begin their positions until their background check is complete and satisfactory results are returned.
Questions to identify the appropriate background check are incorporated into the Student and Other Non-Benefits Eligible New Hire Form to capture this process at the time of hire. If a current graduate assistant does not have a background check on file, please complete the Background Check Request Form to initiate the screenings.
Because the background check is mandatory for employment, there is no cost to the graduate assistant or hiring department.
If the graduate assistant has successfully completed a background check through WVU within the past year, they do not need to complete a new one.
