Recommendations for program reduction and discontinuation announced

downtown campus

The Provost’s Office distributed the preliminary recommendations, including the number of faculty positions that should be retained in each department, on Thursday (Aug. 10) to deans and chairs following the program portfolio review process. All affected faculty should be notified no later than 2 p.m. today (Aug. 11).

This is part of the University’s focus on Academic Transformation to better position WVU to meet the needs of our students, our communities and our industries.

The letters will be available on the Academic Transformation website after 2:30 p.m. today (Aug. 11).

The Provost’s Office will hold two virtual appeal process support sessions Tuesday (Aug. 15) and Monday, Aug. 21, for deans, directors, chairs and faculty who would like to discuss the program review appeal process.

The sessions will address the differences between appealing for discontinued programs and for reduced faculty numbers, as well as offer guidance on how to prepare a staffing plan for programs appealing their reduction in faculty.

Associate Provost Lou Slimak will lead these discussions.
