A familiar face at many high-profile campus events will retire from the University on Friday (June 30) after more than 20 years of service.
Lisa Martin, special events coordinator senior in the WVU President’s Office, began her time at WVU in what is now the John Chambers College of Business and Economics.
In 2007, she found a permanent spot in the Office of University Events serving as the lead organizer for Commencement ceremonies, Order of Vandalia inductions, special events at Blaney House and other events across campus.
“I started out at the bottom of the rung, as they say, and I worked my way up,” Martin said. “It’s been such a pleasure being part of the University family and I’ll miss the people the most."
"I’ve been so very fortunate to have met and worked with so many wonderful people over the years. I hope my efforts to do the very best work I could was evident in the events and my interactions with those I worked closely with," she added.
Martin has been an active member of Staff Council since 2009, where she served as chair and most recently as the classified staff representative for the WVU Board of Governors.
Martin considers herself a “behind-the-scenes” person and plans to sign off Friday “riding into the sunset” without any fanfare.
She will keep a retiree email account, lamartin@retiree.wvu.edu, and looks forward to staying in touch with colleagues and friends.
