Sarah Munroe, marketing manager and acquisitions editor, has been named interim director of the West Virginia University Press.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Maryanne Reed said Munroe’s background and leadership ability make her a natural fit to serve as interim director.
“Sarah has excelled in her work at the West Virginia University Press and we are pleased she is moving into this important role,” Reed said. “I have every confidence the Press’s robust list of award-winning scholarly and trade titles will thrive under her guidance.”
Munroe’s publishing experience began with the WVU Press in 2015 when she served as the editorial and production assistant. In 2020, she assumed the role of the marketing manager and acquisitions editor, acquiring fiction, creative nonfiction, Appalachian studies and other scholarly titles while working closely with many authors to develop and edit their manuscripts.
Prior to coming to the West Virginia University Press, Munroe was an editor at Temple University Press and a senior associate at the Pew Charitable Trusts. Munroe earned a master’s degree in creative writing at WVU and a bachelor’s degree in political science and certificate in writing and publishing from Drexel University.
Munroe will serve as interim director until a search for a permanent director can be conducted. She replaces Derek Krissoff who stepped down from the role in May after serving more than eight years as director.
The West Virginia University Press is the only University press — and the largest publisher of any kind — in the state of West Virginia.
