The Rocket League team continues to help WVU Esports solidify itself among some of the best in the country by qualifying for the NACE Starleague Varsity Premier League Grand Finals hosted by Butler University.
The finals will be held April 29-30 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Mountaineers will take on Northwood University in the championship game.
WVU picked up wins against Oklahoma Christian, Brewton-Parker and St. Clair in the playoffs on the road to punching its ticket to Indianapolis.
“We’re continuing to show progress as a program with our Rocket League team,” WVU Director of Esports Josh Steger said. “We want to keep building to the point where it’s almost expected for us to make every LAN and final.”
This is the third in-person event that the Rocket League team has qualified for this semester. A week after the NACE finals, WVU will head to Dallas, Texas, for the CECC Commissioners Cup from May 6-7. It will be West Virginia’s second year in a row competing in the CECC event — with the Valorant team placing fourth at last year’s Commissioners Cup in Atlanta.
The Mountaineers will finish out the year by becoming the first team in program history to compete in a world championship, participating in the CRL World Championships back in Dallas from June 2-4.
“I’m proud of the guys for putting in the work to get to this point and I think we have what it takes to come away with multiple trophies at the end of this season,” Steger said. “We just want to continue making the University proud.”
