OLLI at WVU will host a presentation on the use of N-95 masks and other strategies to decrease the risk of COVID-19 at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the Mountaineer Mall and on Zoom.

WVU experts Tim Nurkiewicz and Dr. Bill Ramsey will demonstrate how to properly wear an N-95 mask and teach attendees how to keep out of harm’s way, the importance of testing and the benefits of medical treatments once diagnosed with COVID-19.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, seniors are at higher risk for COVID-19 infection. Nearly 99% of cases occur among those over the age of 65.

COVID-19 ranks as the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Per day in the United States there are approximately 344 deaths, 3,504 hospitalizations and 33,733 are new diagnoses.

Experts agree the COVID-19 vaccine is the most important strategy for preventing serious illness; however, if worn correctly, an N-95 mask can be an effective method to help decrease transmission.
