Students in the College of Creative Arts perform more than 300 events per year in many venues across campus, Morgantown and the state. Many of the events are free, family-friendly and open to the public.
Here’s a look at this week’s events.
The Canady Chamber Series Performance: "CORDIS" will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (March 22) in the Canady Creative Arts Center Clay Theatre.
The Canady Chamber Series is excited to return to the stage as they bring together breathtaking visuals and original compositions inspired and created by water in Condition Blue.
The School of Theatre & Dance Performance: "Measure for Measure" will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday (March 22-25) and at 2 p.m. Sunday (March 26) in the Canady Creative Arts Center Davis Theatre.
William Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure is a complex exploration of multiple themes that are relevant in our social ethos today such as sexual harassment, government regulation of morality, abuse of power, religion and the foundations of the arrangement of marriage.
The MFA Exhibition Reception for Jameson Mulac will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday (March 23) in the Canady Creative Arts Center main lobby.
School of Music Guest Recital: Dave Liebman will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday (March 24) in the Canady Creative Arts Center Clay Theatre.
Legendary jazz saxophonist Dave Liebman will perform at the WVU Jazz Fest. This is a free, non-ticketed event.
The School of Music: WVU Jazz Festival will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday (March 25) in the Canady Creative Arts Center Clay Theatre.
This event features the high school all-star Mountaineer Honor Jazz Band.
The School of Music Choirs Performance "Carmina Burana" will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday (March 26) in the Canady Creative Arts Center Clay Theatre.
Enjoy the entertaining and rollicking choruses of one of the most recognizable 20th-century classical works. If classical music had a "rock opera," this would be it.
Mesaros Galleries are open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
MFA Exhibitions: Jameson Mulac "Botanical Folktales" will be on display through Thursday (March 23) in the Laura Mesaros Gallery.
"My work is inspired by my childhood memories of plants and the desire to learn about and share their stories through the lens of diverse cultures and history,” Mulac said.
The Art Museum of WVU spring exhibitions are open from 12:30-6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
In Concert: Photography and the Violin features 250 original photographs, spans a period of more than 175 years and includes examples of nearly every photographic process.
McGee Gallery exhibits bring ideas and objects together in new ways, highlighting the breadth and depth of the Art Museum’s permanent collection:
“In/Humanity: Combat and War in Art,” is an examination of how visual art can help us understand the human experience of conflict,
“Encounters: Blanche Lazzell’s Justice Mural,” exploring the creation of a major work by West Virginia native and noted American modern artist Blanche Lazzell originally made for the Monongalia County Courthouse in 1934 and,
“Printing the Picture” on view in the Deem Print Gallery.
The McGee Gallery rotates every fall and spring with new thematic exhibitions drawn from the Art Museum’s holdings of more than 4,000 objects in diverse mediums.
