West Virginia University, the Ukrainian Mountaineers Association and Ukrainian Community of Morgantown, in cooperation with KLYCH/Клич, will hold a vigil marking one year since Russia invaded Ukraine at 5 p.m Friday (Feb. 24) outside the Mountainlair.

A presentation titled "Ukraine: 365 Days of Defending Freedom" will accompany the slide show "A Year of War through the Photographer's Eye" from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday in the Mountainlair. The 365 slides reflect on each day of the war.

“War-torn Ukraine continues to fight for freedom and our courageous people are not giving up,” said Khrystyna Pelchar, a WVU doctoral student and Ukraine native. “On Feb. 24, it will have been exactly one year since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and Russia has not only violated the existing principles of international law, such as respect for territorial integrity, but committed terrible war crimes and crimes against humanity recognized by the United States.”

A concert hosted by University faculty will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 26) at 123 Pleasant Street. Proceeds will be used for relief supplies needed in Ukraine.

Ukrainians will come together in more than 58 cities in the United States Feb. 24-26 to give thanks for the support in their fight for freedom.
