Learn more about HLC accreditation during upcoming town hall

In April 2024, WVU will undergo a comprehensive evaluation by the Higher Learning Commission to ensure it is meeting the criteria for accreditation

This Year 10 reaffirmation of accreditation will include the submission and review of a full report from WVU demonstrating compliance with the five criteria, a federal compliance review for Title IV support eligibility, a student opinion survey and an on-site peer review visit.

The Office of the Provost will continue to host “Preparing for Accreditation 2024,” a series of presentations and discussions focused on each of the HLC’s criteria for accreditation.

The second event, an in-person town hall session titled “HLC Accreditation Criterion 1: Mission,” will take place from 10-11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 3, in the Rhododendron Room of the Mountainlair.

This town hall will cover the first of five criteria for accreditation explaining the HLC's expectations for this area in a short 15-minute presentation, and we will review examples of how WVU has met this criterion in the past.

A working draft of what the institution is planning to provide to the HLC for its next visit will be made available to the community for review, comment, feedback, and for additional examples and evidence.

The core components for this criterion are the public articulation and functioning of the mission, the commitment of the institution to the public good, and how the institution provides opportunities for civic good in a diverse society.

Faculty and staff who are interested in the institution's mission, its connection to institutional curricular and co-curricular offerings and services, and how the mission supports diversity, equity and inclusion for the institutional community are encouraged to attend.

Additional events will be held on April 14, Sept. 1, Oct. 6, and Nov. 3. A final campus review of the self-study will take place on Zoom Jan. 19, 2024.

Details for the upcoming events will be added to the Provost’s Office website and shared in MOUNTAINEER E-NEWS and through other communication platforms as dates approach.
