If your daily activities or hobbies are affected by pain, loss of mobility, strength or weight bearing issues or limitations, aquatic therapy sessions at the Student Rec Center pool may help.
This free clinic offers aquatic therapy to adults and children who have a variety of conditions that may benefit from working in the water.
The water is an amazing resource for therapy and exercise. Water therapy and exercise can help you to begin activity or therapy prior to a joint replacement, following an injury or if you are experiencing chronic conditions.
Individuals with arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, balance difficulties, challenges with walking, back pain, orthopedic injury or neurological disorders may benefit from aquatic therapy. Additionally, athletes that are in need of improving mobility issues or engaging in cross training may also benefit from aquatic therapy.
Sessions will be by appointment only. To provide the greatest benefits to clients, 30- to 60-minute sessions will be scheduled one to three times per week depending on needs and availability.
Space is limited and individuals will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.
Sessions are free; however, you must enter the facility as a Rec Center or SilverSneakers member or by purchasing a day pass for $10.
Individuals will be asked to complete a short health history and aquatic assessments to identify specific needs. Clients will receive one-on-one, personalized treatment with experienced senior level exercise physiology students graduating with an emphasis in aquatic therapy. All programming will be supervised by Lori Sherlock.
Experience aquatic techniques used to improve range of motion and mobility, muscular strength and endurance, walking and overall function in an aquatic environment. All students are trained in specialized techniques including Bad Ragaz Ring Method, Halliwick, the Burdenko Method, AquaStretch, Arthritis Foundation Exercises and more.
Each client will have a personalized program created for them to cater to individual needs.
