WVU esports is making more history with a win for the Valorant team in the Mid-Atlantic regional tournament, part of Red Bull Campus Clutch in Columbus, Ohio.
With the victory, the team will move on to the Red Bull Campus Clutch national championships, which take place in Dallas from Nov. 17-20. A spot in the world championships in São Paulo, Brazil is on the line for the winning school.
The Valorant team opened the year ranked in the top 10 nationally, and swept through its competition in the four-school regional final with 1-0 wins over Ohio Northern and Rowan, before beating Rowan again in the final, 2-0
“Winning our region in the dominant fashion that we did reflects the expectations the players and I have for the team,” WVU esports director Josh Steger said. “The event in Texas is really going to show us what we’re made of. Everyone wants to rep the U.S. and go to Brazil, so there is no room for errors."
The Red Bull Campus Clutch is the largest collegiate Valorant tournament in the world, open to college students from more than 300 universities and 50 countries. This month’s national championships in Dallas will feature the 14 schools that won regional qualifiers, as well as the winner of an offline last-chance qualifier and an in-person wild card qualifier among teams that have yet to qualify.
