After a summer-long closure to prepare new exhibits, the Art Museum of WVU plans to welcome visitors again beginning this Saturday (Aug. 20).
Both museum galleries now feature new exhibits including Storywork: The Prints of Marie Watt from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and his Family Foundation.
Marie Watt is a celebrated contemporary artist and member of the Seneca Nation. The new exhibit showcases her 30-year career with 60+ original prints and sculpture. Indigenous narratives, mythology and proto-feminism are all common themes in Watt’s work.
Visitors will also find three other new exhibits in the McGee Gallery: Diversi Animali: Animal Imagery, Encounters: Blanche Lazzell and the Art Colonies and Femfolio: 20 Women Artists.
The museum celebrates its 7th birthday with a gathering sponsored by the Friends of the Art Museum organization from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25.
