The Morgantown Community Orchestra is proud to present this semester’s concert “Morgantown’s Orchestra Returns” Sunday, Dec. 5 in Falbo Theatre of the College of Creative Arts Center.
The orchestra will perform Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland, arr. Robert Longfield; Overture to Rosamunde by Franz Schubert, arr. Richard L. Weaver; Overture to The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini, arr. Richard Meyer; Theme from “Superman” by John Williams, arr. Carson Rothrock; and Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, Op. 67 by Ludwig van Beethoven (Movement IV arr. P. Martin).
The concert will also be livestreamed on the Morgantown Community Orchestra’ Facebook page at facebook.com/MorgantownCommunityOrchestra.
Designed for intermediate and advanced players in the community and greater region who wish to share and develop their artistic talents, MCO is one of the largest musical ensembles of WVU’s Community Music Program.
The ensemble is directed by Alyssa Schwartz, WVU alumna and director of bands at Fairmont State University. “The energy, commitment, and growth of these musicians over the course of our semester together has been remarkable,” Schwartz said. “They have been willing to tackle some very significant challenges this term, perhaps the most notable of which is our performing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, the first three movements of which are the original rendition.”
Following WVU’s COVID-19 safety guidelines, the orchestra has been very excited to be able to resume in-person rehearsals and performances this semester. Representing the MCO musicians, the board of the orchestra expressed “We are grateful for this ensemble and to the WVU School of Music for allowing us to resume in-person rehearsals. The gathering of people to share music is a special and rewarding experience.”
The Morgantown Community Orchestra welcomes instrumentalists of a wide range of music experience and provides a meaningful opportunity for artistic growth, community engagement and high-quality performance opportunities.
