Avoid upgrading personally owned computers to Windows 11 if you use them for work or study

Information Technology Services recommends that faculty, staff and students who use personally owned Windows computers for study or University work avoid installing the new Windows 11 operating system until further notice.

The upgrade will be delayed for all WVU-owned computers until Information Technology Services has had sufficient time to test important services and applications. Employees should not attempt to update University-owned or -managed machines. This includes computers managed by Health Sciences ITS.

Windows 10 is supported until October 2025, so there is no urgency to switch. ITS doesn’t anticipate updating WVU machines until next spring or summer, after full testing.
