Morgantown Community Orchestra

The Morgantown Community Orchestra is excited to return to in-person rehearsals and performances this year. Registration is open until Sept. 25 and community members are invited to join our musicians and the MCO director Alyssa Schwartz for a play-in on Sept. 25.

The orchestra welcomes instrumentalists of a wide range of musical experience (adults, youth and senior citizens) and provides a meaningful opportunity for artistic growth, community engagement and high-quality performance opportunities.

In this ensemble and under the baton of Schwartz, you will learn to:

    1. Interpret the language and intentions of conductors

    2. Play in an ensemble at an intermediate to advanced level

    3. Develop fundamental and analytical aural skills

    4. Understand the organization and the craft of orchestral work

    5. Important orchestral etiquette tips

The fall concert will take place on Sunday, Dec 5, at 2 p.m. at the Antoinette Falbo Theater in the Canady Creative Arts Center. Rehearsals are on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

The MCO’s dynamic repertoire this semester includes:

  • Beethoven, Symphony no.5

  • Copland, Fanfare for the Common Man

  • Rossini, Barber of Seville Overture

  • Schubert, Rosamunde Overture

  • Williams, Theme from “Superman”
