Important accommodation reminder from the WVU Office of Accessibility Services

The Office of Accessibility Services wishes to stress the importance of accommodating students with disabilities.

Each semester, students who are authorized to receive accommodations through the Office of Accessibility Services renew those accommodations online. Doing so triggers the release of official accommodation authorization emails to faculty. Students are then responsible for meeting with faculty during office hours to discuss how accommodations will be implemented in each class.

Faculty should make themselves available for these conversations in a reasonable time frame and in a private setting. After meeting with students, faculty should digitally sign the OAS accommodation authorization email, confirming that a conversation has taken place.

Within one week of meeting with a student, faculty are responsible for implementing accommodations in the agreed upon fashion to ensure prompt access to course instruction.

Faculty who have questions about the implementation of accommodations are encouraged to reach out to Accessibility Services for guidance at 304-293-6700.
