WVU employees and students required to swipe their WVUID to ride the PRT

PRT waiting for students to load in

Beginning Monday (Sept. 13), faculty, staff and students will be required to swipe their WVUID card to ride the Personal Rapid Transit system.

Riding the PRT is still free for WVU students and employees; however, members of the public will be required to pay the standard 50-cent fee to ride the PRT beginning Monday.

Riding the PRT is quick and easy and it’s one of the most efficient and sustainable ways to get around campus.

The PRT has stations available on all three areas of campus:

  • Walnut – downtown Morgantown

  • Beechurst – Downtown area of campus

  • Engineering – Evansdale area of campus

  • Towers – Evansdale area of campus

  • HSC – Health Sciences area of campus

To ride, just swipe your card or pay, click the button next to your chosen destination, enter through the turnstiles, and wait for your ride. Use the digital signage across the platforms to know when your vehicle is arriving and where you can board.

While using the PRT, be sure to follow all guidelines — including wearing a mask while at the PRT stations and when riding a vehicle — to ensure your safety.

Avoid overloading the vehicle or holding the doors open. Passengers also should never step onto the electrically powered guideway or forcibly open vehicle doors or windows unless instructed to do so.

The platforms and stations are monitored by PRT Central Control staff at all times. If you have any questions or concerns while using the PRT, please use the assistance telephones located on each platform to talk directly to PRT Central Control.

Visit the PRT website for more information. For changes to the PRT’s hours of operation as well as PRT status updates and other information, follow @WVUPRTstatus on Twitter.
