The Office of Sustainability, the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design and the WVU Tree Campus USA committee are partnering to host West Virginia University’s inaugural lumber sale from 2-6 p.m. Friday (July 30) and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday (July 31) in the event tent outside the WVU Creative Arts Center, 1 Fine Arts Drive.
The event is designed to help give new life to campus trees — both historic and non-historic — that have been removed for safety reasons. The sale will provide members of our campus community and the general public the chance to purchase salvaged wood from campus trees for woodworking projects.
The usable wood from several recently removed campus trees has been milled into pieces of lumber and dried for this unique upcycling opportunity.
Customers will have the option to get their pieces of lumber branded with the Flying WV logo or they may choose to leave their timbers plain.
Pricing for the lumber will range from $1 to $3 per board foot depending on wood type. Most boards have been milled to approximately six to eight feet.
The sale is cash only, and all proceeds will support continued tree planting and maintenance on campus.
