The Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will host the panel discussion “Women’s HERstory: For All Womankind” Monday (March 29) an noon.

“Even in 2021, being the ‘First Woman’ to break a glass ceiling can be a heavy, unacknowledged, and unspoken responsibility,” said Aisury Vasquez, diversity outreach coordinator. “Women's HERstory Month can serve as a time to celebrate the accomplishments of women who have paved the way. But to ensure the legacy and success of all women, a society must also intentionally acknowledge what it means to be a woman in spaces created by and for men and then actively work to remove systemic barriers of oppression upheld by all people.”

The discussion will feature a panel of glass breakers and will explore the idea and lived experiences of what it means to be "The First" as leaders, organizers and women.

Vasquez will serve as moderator and panelists include:

  • Amaya Jernigan, junior biology major, President-Elect, WVU Student Government Association

  • Rosemary Ketchum, member, Wheeling City Council

  • Meshea L. Poore, Esq., Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

  • Natalie Tennant, former West Virginia Secretary of State

Join the panel discussion.
