The WVU Center for Resilient Communities to launch Just Transition Leadership Institute

Center for Resilient Communities Teambuilding

The WVU Center for Resilient Communities is accepting applications and nominations for the first Just Transition Leadership Institute to take place June 4-26. The program is open to 16 to 18-year-olds, particularly students of color, women and girls, LGBTQ+ and students from low-income and working class backgrounds.

The Just Transition Leadership Institute prepares high school students to lead community building efforts in their neighborhoods, small towns and rural homeplaces. They will dig into their sense of place and purpose, story and calling, and what moves them.

We will facilitate meaningful conversations about the betterment of society, moral leadership and cooperation, while considering topics such as the role of art, music, food, economy, environment, health and sustainable development for shared prosperity. Participants will learn to map out and analyze the problems our communities face and consider how to foster unity of action and initiative.

We will also have visiting leaders share their wisdom and encouragement. And, we will do it all through virtual meetings and real world activities that enable us to create closer connections while socially distancing.

High school applicants not graduating in 2021 are eligible to earn three credits through the WVU ACCESS Program.
