The Colloquium for Aspiring Underrepresented Doctoral Candidates, hosted by the WVU Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Office of Graduate Admissions, is a free, two-day virtual event, April 13-14, for high-achieving Students of Color who are completing or have completed a bachelor's degree, or are enrolled in a master's degree program.
Registration deadline is April 4. Register for the free, two-day virtual event.
“I look forward to welcoming these talented students and hearing about the passions and experiences that have led them to pursue the highest levels of academic achievement at our university,” said Meshea L. Poore, Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. “The Colloquium is a wonderful opportunity for our departments to meet with these students and explore how their skills, gifts and intellect can benefit the specific discipline. Every year the students that attend Colloquium bring new energy and excitement to our recruitment efforts. I believe each of them would be an excellent addition to our Mountaineer family.”
This event is a unique opportunity for prospective doctoral students to hear from professionals in a variety of fields about the latest trends, news, and advances from industries like technology, medicine, business and the arts.
“We are excited to host an amazing group of prospective graduate students to a virtual campus visit,” said Richard Thomas, interim associate provost for Graduate Academic Affairs. “By participating in the Colloquium, these students will learn how much West Virginia University has to offer in terms of their graduate experience, and we hope to convince them to seriously consider one of our graduate programs.”
The Colloquium for Aspiring Underrepresented Doctoral Students is a joint recruitment venture of West Virginia University and the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission as part of the Chancellor’s Scholars Fellowship. The Chancellor’s Scholars Fellowship is a competitive scholarship for underrepresented students accepted into or enrolled in a qualifying doctoral program at any participating West Virginia higher education institution. Students who participate in the Colloquium are given priority status when considered for a fellowship position.
