To ensure proper communication during an emergency, West Virginia University will conduct a test of the WVU Alert system today (March 1) at 2 p.m.
Students are automatically registered for the emergency messaging system through email. Students should add their phone number to their account to receive text messages as well. Prior to the test, we encourage you to update your information and ensure it is correct.
WVU Alert messages are sent through all possible channels of communication when there is an imminent threat to the safety of the campus community or when the University is delayed or closed due to weather conditions.
The Campus Warning tier of the WVU Alert system is utilized when Clery-reportable crimes occur within the area designated by the Clery Act. Messages are sent through email and social media communications. Community Notice messages, which are posted on social media, are sent for less urgent incidents in an effort to enhance safety on campus and provide useful information.
We encourage all students to follow the @WVUalert Twitter, the @WVUsafety Twitter, and the WVU Safety and Wellness Facebook page to receive important updates. Students can also utilize the LiveSafe app to receive messages. Other app features include the abilities to anonymously report tips to WVU Police through direct two-way communication and virtually walk home with friends or family.
