The WVU Research Office is making leadership changes on the heels of the departure of Katie Stores, who has served as assistant vice president for Research Administration since 2018, led the Office of Sponsored Programs and provided administrative oversight of the Office of Research Program Management since 2019. Stores has accepted a new leadership role with Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

In her time at the Research Office, among other projects, Stores spearheaded an initiative to digitize the OSP internal operations. With the collaboration of internal and external stakeholders, the office now operates in an entirely digital environment.

“We undertook a project to significantly modernize the WVU OSP environment, which has been an incredible success due to the support of Dr. Fred King and the amazing leadership and support of the OSP team,” Stores said.

“Dr. Stores is an extremely talented and progressive research administrator and leader,” said Fred King, vice president for research at WVU. “She has transformed the operations and culture of our Office of Sponsored Programs, leaving it better than she found it. She will be greatly missed by all who have worked with her.”

Immediately prior to joining the Research Office, Stores served as the associate dean for external research development for the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.

Following an internal search, effective Tuesday (Jan. 19) Paul Fetty, Katie Schneller and Tiffany Lutskus will serve as interim directors of the three departments of OSP, Award Initiation and Management, Pre-Award, and Award Negotiation, respectively.

“I know that Katie, Paul, and Tiffany will continue to modernize the operations of their areas of responsibility and continue the commitment of the Office of Sponsored Programs to providing outstanding service to our researchers,” King said.

Please note, for future sponsored program applications and submissions that require the signature of an authorized organizational representative (AOR), include Paul Fetty, Interim Director, Award Initiation and Management, as the signatory.

The WVU Office of Research Program Management is also under new leadership. Drew Bucy is now leading the ORPM following Bryan Martin’s acceptance of a new position with the University of Kentucky.

“Bryan has built a very strong group of project managers and worked diligently to ensure that our researchers had access to the group to support major projects across the University,” King said.
