West Virginia University — along with local community veteran support organizations — will hold its annual Pearl Harbor ceremony Monday (Dec. 7) in remembrance of the 79th anniversary of the bombing and to honor the brave Americans who fought so gallantly on that day.

The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the USS West Virginia mast and bell in front of Oglebay Hall and includes a 21-gun salute with three volleys being fired at 9:50 a.m. This year’s keynote speaker will be U.S. Marine Corps veteran and current WVU student, Andrew Chancey.

Chancey is a native of Ripley and served in the Marines as an Aviation Precision Measurement Equipment Technician. He is pursuing a bachelor's degree in economics along with a minor in business data analytics and will graduate May 2021.

Those wishing to attend the event in person are asked to follow WVU’s COVID-19 safety protocols by wearing a mask and practicing physical distancing. Those who do not wish to attend in person should follow @wvumountaineers on Facebook and @WestVirginiaU on Twitter for updates from the event.
